Department of Political Science

The dept. was established in 1919. The department has a diverse faculty whose specialization spreads across  the field of  Comparative Politics, Political Theory, Political Thought, Indian Government and Politics, Development Processes, International Relations, Security studies, Public Policy and Administration and Foreign Policy etc . and caters to the largest number of students across disciplines. The core emphasis of the department is on familiarising students with the conceptual and applied essence of the discipline. The course offers a set of skills which are an excellent preparation for public policy making, policy analysis, legal fields, international relations, diplomacy, political consultancy, public affairs, academics and research. The department has established several collaborations with both national and international organizations in order to provide hands-on experience to students. The department prepares students for a wide range of careers, who join government, non-government organizations and private sectors. A large number of students opt for higher studies in prestigious institutions in India and abroad. The discipline of Political Science requires students to understand politics in all its nuances, to probe power relationships which exist in human interaction and examine the fundamental principles of democratic functioning that guide ideas and institutions.

B.A(Hons) 

The University Offers bachelor courses of 3 years in B.A(Political Science).  

M.A(Political Science)

The dept. offers 2 years masters course with political science.

 

M.A(Public Administration)

The dept. offers 2 years masters course with political science.

PhD

The department offer Ph.d course for 3-5 year,depends upon the field of research opted by the student. Apart from familiarising students with contemporary academic debates, the department since its inception has emerged as a training ground for in-depth research and reference work. In this regard, the department has developed crucial linkages with research institutions,  and public institutes in India , opening up interactive platforms for students to develop long term research interests.

Departmental Associated Activities

The dept. organises Seminars and Talks by Poltical Thinkers on Current Political Senireios.Each year  few Special Lecturs are being organised with the collarboration of  Proffesors  from JMI,JNU and DU.Currently the department is running PDC(political Discussion Club) each month various debates,lectures are organised by the club.
